Seniors Super Saturday Nights

We had our first night on Anzac day and I am happy to report was a raging success.

The evening started off at 5pm with our highly competitive Metro 1 Reserves, coming away with a point after an entertaining 2 all draw.

At the conclusion of that game we had an under 7’s match between the Leopards and Jaguars which ended in a 1-1 draw.  At the same time we had the best sharp shooters from the under 12’s vying for a top 3 finish in round 1 to make it to the final of our Loganholme FC Penalty Shootout Challenge.

For the start of the main game we had the under 7’s running their heroes onto the park and remaining there for a moving one minutes silence for our fallen diggers. This game was something to be remembered; playing in front of large enthusiastic crowd our boys upset the previously unbeaten and title favourites Taringa 4-3.  Our young guns were simply terrific and the score line flattered Taringa as two late goals added respect for them.

Half time in the main game saw three under 12 boys attempting to hold their nerve to win the $50 prize but more importantly bragging rights to be declared the under 12 Penalty Shootout Champion.  Stephen Horne was calm and lethal to win the title with Josh Plater and Jarrod Borg worthy runners up.

A big thank you to Taringa Rovers for being gracious visitors and playing their role on the day. Thanks to all my fellow sub committee, committee members and club helpers for their assistance. The biggest thank-you goes to all the players, juniors and parents who came along to enjoy a thoroughly entertaining night.

Next week we have two more Under 7 sides playing a game and the Under 13’s are competing in Penalty Shootout Challenge.
