Loganholme U11's Carnival

On Sunday the Loganholme U10 FMG Academy team participated in the U11 Carnival and did very well reaching the semi-final and going through undefeated in their group stage.

There were 5 teams in each pool with the FMG boys finishing top of their pool.

Game 1 - Pine Hills U10 development team won 2-0 with goals from Oliver Luca and Hayden Bourke.

Game 2 - Teviot Downs U11 won 3-0 with goals from Oliver Luca, Hayden Bourke and Carlton Westerdale.

Game 3 - Loganholme Lightning U11 won 2-0 with goals from Linden Farr and Carlton Westerdale

Game 4 - Kinaroy U11 - Drew 2-2 this was a very exciting game as the FMG boys needed at least a draw to finish top of their pool after trailing 2-0 for most of the game we managed to get a goal back from Linden Farr but with time running out and Kinaroy kicking the ball into touch at every opportunity assistant coach Kev Westerdale worked harder than ever to retrieve the ball and save valuable seconds which in the end were required. Then with no more than 20 secs remaining Alistair Douglas found Carlton Westerdale on the edge of the box he managed to turn the defender and play a sublime pass across the goal area where Jed Brown rifled the shot in the goal to save the day, a fantastic result for the boys to top the group.

Semi- Final - Robina City U11 - This was always going to be a tall order against a top Div 1 team who are in top position in their league however the FMG boys again rose to the occasion and took the lead through a great goal from Linden Farr and the boys were 1-0 up. Robina equalised 10 mins later but the boys were holding their own certainly up-to half time and were very much in the game however in the second half Robina's expereinece took over and 2 goals in quick succession cemented the victory for the Gold Coast side.

All in all a great day was had by all including the team, parents and coaches of the FMG team - Im sue the boys will have learned heaps from this hard fought carnival - thanks to Mr Croyden for coaching the boys and well done to all the boys!!

FMG U10's V Queensland Lions U10's

On a very heavy pitch after the recent rain FMG U10's played an entertaining game against Queensland lions on Thursday night. FMG dominated long periods of play but the ball never quite reached the vital forward line and play was stuck in midfield for most of the game and so apart from a few shots from deep the Lions keeper wasnt really tested. Lions on the other hand took their chances well and punished some unlucky errors in the FMG defence to score 2 well taken goals. The Lions played a well drilled game however scoring chances for both sides were low in numbers.

Good performances from Jed Levitt, Dylan Hostland and the hard working Jed Brown for FMG with Jed Levitt taking the man of the match award.

Thanks to Queensland lions for an entertaing game.

FMG U10's V Loganholme U11 Div 3

FMG U10's academy team played out an entertaining game against the U11 Div 3 team on Wednesday night. The FMG boys put on a great show on the big field against their older opposition and were very impressive. Some outstanding play from Matthew Green and Jed Brown ensured the U10 team gave a great account of themselves. The FMG side showed that even though they were on a much bigger field their style of flowing, passing football will hold them in good stead in the future. The U11 team eventually won the game 2-1 however the boys were unlucky not to draw the game at least. Two goals from Alistair Douglas sealed the game for the U11's but not before FMG's goalkeeper Trent Steiner had earlier saved a penalty then late in the game FMG scored a goal through Carlton Westerdale following up on a great free kick from Jed Brown. All in all it was a good game and thanks to Colin Douglas and his team for playing their part in an entertaining game.
