2009 Carnival Results
U11 Carnival - 19 July 2009
After a number of postponed carnivals due to wet weather, it was great to finally have our first carnival for the year. This U11 full field carnival saw a very competitive field of 10 teams take to the park in what was a strongly contested day with some close results. All of the teams competed in the true spirit and all players, team officials and parents represented their clubs proudly.
The round-robin phase saw each team play a series of four games within their pool with the top two teams from each pool progressing to the semi-finals. Loganholme F C (div 1) and Queensland Lions (div 1) topped their respective groups; whilst Albany Creek (div 1) and the Football Toowoomba Representative team finished second in their respective pools and also progressed to the semi-finals.
Loganholme F C (div 1) met Football Toowoomba in the first semi final where Loganholme put in one of their best performances of the day to overcome a very strong Toowoomba outfit 4-0. Queensland Lions (div 1) and Albany Creek (div 1) played out the second semi-final in a very close affair. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after Albany Creek thought they had scored the winner just minutes from time only to be ruled offside. The game was decided by the dreaded penalty shoot-out which was won 4-1 by Albany Creek.
The grand-final saw Loganholme F C (div 1) take on the top of the table north side team Albany Creek (div 1). The grand-final was always going to be a close contest, with the previous game between these two teams ending in a close 1-0 win to Loganholme. Albany Creek displayed a great deal of fight during the final, but goals either side of the halftime break from Carlton Westerdale and Oliver Luca saw Loganholme F C run out winners 2-0 and remain undefeated for the tournament and conceding just 1 goal in 6 games. James Bonomi for Loganholme was named player of the final.
Loganholme F C would like to thank Bendigo Bank, Logan Community Bank Branch for their support and assistance as our carnival major sponsor - without their assistance it would be impossible to have such a great event. We would also like to thank Belinda from Images with Attitude, Paul Anich from Springwood Worldwide on-line Printing and Kerrie Saverin from Jamaica Blue (Loganholme) for all their support during the day.
