2008 Carnival Results

U10 Carnival – 25 May 2008

A very competitive field of 20 teams from across Brisbane and the Gold Coast took to the fields in what was a strongly contested day with some close results.  All of the teams competed in the true spirit and all players, team officials and parents represented their clubs proudly.

The round-robin phase saw each team play a series of four games within their pool with the top two teams from each pool progressing to the quarter-finals.  Rochedale Rovers (A), Qld Lions (Hibernian), Albany Creek and Pine Hills finished top of their respective groups, whilst Loganholme (Lightning), Loganholme (Cyclones), Loganholme (Storm) and Annerley (Dingoes) finished second in their respective pools and also progressed to the quarter-finals.

The quarter-finals were all close affairs with three (1-0) results and a (nil-all) draw that was separated through a count back with Loganholme (Lightning) being the unlucky team to be knocked out without losing a game or conceding a goal.  Unfortunately for Loganholme – all three quarter finalists bowed out.  This was a great effort for three teams from the one club to reach the finals of such a strong carnival.  The semi-finals were also a close affair with Albany Creek and Pine Hills both going down in close (1-0) defeats.

Qld Lions (Hibernian) met Rochedale Rovers (A) that was the scores level at (1-1) at full time after a last minute goal by Qld Lions.  10 minutes of extra time failed to break the dead-lock and both teams were declared joint winners.  With all of the finals being decided by one goal (or less) and the grand-final ending in a draw paid testament to the very high standard and equal competition on show throughout the day.
